It’s natural to want the latest technology, especially when it makes life easier.

If you’re looking to upgrade to one of Cochlear’s newest sound processors, funding your purchase can be daunting. For example, it’s difficult to know if insurance can help pay for a new sound processor.

Ways to upgrade

If you’re ready to take the next step but aren’t sure how to pay for an upgrade, there are different options to help you with the cost:

  1. Self-pay
  2. Insurance reimbursement
  3. Financing

Remember, you can always contact our customer support members for information about funding options and whether you are eligible for an upgrade through insurance.

Tips for funding

Certain elements of insurance can determine whether it will cover some upgrade costs. If any of the following topics apply to you, be sure to ask your insurance fund.

  • Some insurance (public and private) may authorise a replacement sound processor when it has reached the end of its useful life.
  • If you lose or damage your sound processor beyond repair, insurance may cover an upgrade to the latest generation as a replacement.
  • If a new sound processor’s technology may improve your hearing performance, this could act as a medical reason to upgrade.
